The effect of methyl group on the mechanical properties of hydrophobic association hydrogel

Hydrophobic association hydrogels were fabricated via micellar copolymerization of acrylamide and hydrophobic monomers lauryl (meth)acrylate (LA or LMA) in an aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate. The effect of methyl groups of hydrophobic monomers on the crosslinking network structure and mechanical behavior of the gels was investigated on the basis of rubber elastic theory. It was found that the LMA-gel exhibited higher effective crosslink density and elastic modulus. The methyl groups of hydrophobic monomers limited the flexibility of the methacrylate backbone in the association domain, which resulted in the increment of chains constraints. With the increase of stretch rate, the dissipated energy of LMA-gel increased more highly than that of LA-gel. In addition, the methyl group hindered the movement of polymer chains, leading to the lower recovery efficiency of dissipated energy for LMA-gel. In contract, the LA-gel exhibited a rapid response to external force, and possessed better elasticity and self-recovery property. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Tuning Ground States of Bis(triarylamine) Dications: From a Closed‐Shell Singlet to a Diradicaloid with an Excited Triplet State

Three bis(triarylamine) dications were isolated by using weakly coordinating anions. Their electronic structures in the ground state were investigated by various experiments in conjunction with theoretical calculations. The ground‐state electronic structures of these species were tunable by substituent effects, with two of them as closed‐shell singlets and one of them as an open‐shell singlet in the solid state. The excited state of the latter is thermally accessible, indicated by EPR and SQUID measurements. The work provides a new and stable diradicaloid structure motif with an excited triplet sate.     

镝掺杂LaPO4拉曼光谱变化规律的探讨

采用水热法和后续热处理合成出单斜相LaPO4以及LaPO4:Dy3+,通过XRD对样品进行物相分析,结果表明:所得样品为LaPO4,且XRD图谱及拉曼光谱中峰位的偏移表明Dy的存在,即Dy被掺杂到LaPO4基质中。通过研究用Dy对LaPO4进行不同量掺杂后其拉曼光谱的变化规律,进而找出用Dy对LaPO4进行不同量掺杂后其内部结构的变化规律。结果显示,用Dy对LaPO4进行不同量掺杂后,随着掺杂比例的增大,晶格畸变程度先上升后下降,且在镧镝物质的量比例为1∶0.06时对基体晶格结构影响最大。     

Effective optical path length investigation for cubic diffuse cavity as gas absorption cell

A simple cubic-shaped cavity with a high-diffuse-reflectivity inner coating as a novel gas detection cell was developed. The effective optical path length (EOPL) was evaluated by comparing the oxygen absorption signal in the cavity and in air based on tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy. The law for a spherical cavity was applied and modified to a cubic cavity as a function of reflectivity ρ, port fraction f, and the side length. Single-pass average path length of the cubic cavity was 0.723(7) times the side length. EOPL can be modified conveniently by adjusting the parameters of the cavity.     

Doubly stereocontrolled asymmetric Michael addition of acetylacetone to nitroolefins promoted by an isosteviol-derived bifunctional thiourea

A novel class of chiral bifunctional thioureas bearing a chiral lipophilic beyerane scaffold and a tertiary amino group was designed and prepared. The thioureas were proven to be effective for catalyzing the doubly stereocontrolled asymmetric Michael addition between acetylacetone and nitroolefins. The corresponding adducts were obtained in high yields (up to 95%) and with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97%). In addition, the reaction of tert-butyl acetoacetate and trans-β-nitrostyrene also proceeded smoothly with good enantioselectivity.
